Another sunny day and we had a good turnout of 17 juniors despite being advised many of our players have other commitments in July as the holiday season approaches.  Just a reminder we are hosting a simul next Saturday 13/7 where all our advanced and intermediate players are invited to play. This starts at 10 am and will be given by Finn Schell. Normal lessons will be given to beginners for both sessions, so please come along if you have booked or you would like to enter. Also, a reminder the following Saturday 20/7 is our final session of the term until the 7/9/24. There will be an all-play-all competition starting at 10am for all players. Prizes/certificates and light refreshments will be provided.

In the 1st advanced session, Tony our puzzles king set out 8 different positions of increasing levels which nearly all the juniors solved. Special mention to Aarav who was 1st to finish & getting all correct.

Eric took Noah and Markas through their paces in a minor simul with advice and suggestions through their own moves. Noah is away on holidays now and we wish him a nice summer and look forward to seeing him again in September.

Graham and Azhar went through various tactics and games with Pavina and Teddy respectively.

We combined the 2nd session with individual teaching from Martin/Eric/Graham and Azhar for Eduard/Rafan/Neil/Alfie/Lewis and Aman.

Birthdays this week

Slightly belated birthday wishes go to Harry (5th July) – welcome to the troublesome teenage years!

and Lathujan (6th July) who came to play chess on his birthday against……… his sister! …..Doh!

We hope you both enjoyed your special day.

Thanks as always to our coaches of Graham/Azhar/Martin/Tony  and whilst writing we wish our long term coach  Paul Errington a speedy recovery from illness.

Ladder positions

Wins today for Pavina, Aarav, Tristan, Noah, Aman and Eduard. Lewis and Victor fought out a hard earned draw whilst Nathaniel gave Tony a very good game and Neil played some great moves against Graham.

Eduard and Neil tied for top spot in the 11.30 advanced group, Eduard edging it on attendance throughout the term. Although Nicolas came second against todays ‘puzzle king’ Aarav, he has the unassaleable lead in the 10am advanced group.

Looks like a playoff between Larissa and Noah will sort out the 10am ladder, meanwhile Aman has the title firmly in his grasp.

Knockout Tournament

The Advanced sections remain unfinished due to missing key players, so they may become null and void, but the intermediates are complete with winners Arthur and Noah.

Thanks

Thank you Noah for the large tin of assorted sweets (yum yum) and the very kind card directed at the ‘Chess Team’ we sincerely hope you are all becoming better players and more importantly, still enjoy playing chess.

Hope to see you all next week

Eric Sachs
